This month's feature: SEMA IAS 2005
Hundreds of manufacturers packed into the Atlantic City Convention Center, showing off thousands of the latest and shiniest products all aimed at the sport compact market this past weekend at this year's SEMA IAS Show.
The three day show, split between industry-only and public hours, has seen a lot of growth from its 2004 debut as IAS East, a sister show to IAS West held in Los Angeles. One of the reasons for the tremendous growth is that this year's IAS Show was a stand-alone - and a stand-out, proving to be the world's biggest sport compact-focused show.
Not only were there enough vendors to require moving the Show into a larger hall from the previous year, but also the number and quality of the cars participating in the show portion - over 250 show cars and well over a dozen top notch race cars glittered under the spotlights. There was an entire row dedicated to the NHRA Xplod Sport Compact Series including Abel Ibarra's RX-8 among notable others.
SEMA also exposed many potential fans to the drifting phenomenon in this young market. Team Signal shipped out a trio of Silvias, and (when it wasn't raining) put the Nissans through a circuit of light standards and islands.
Following are some of this year's SEMA IAS highlights:
