SEMA 2006 reflected the robust and vibrant state of the performance aftermarket. Bigger than ever, the show presented a challenge for manufacturers to create "buzzworthy" attractions.
But every show has a star, and this year's star was the Da Vinci Forgiato wheel -- a modular custom wheel with a clear polycarbonate center. Your brakes had better look real good. There were at least six companies with brake upgrades capable of stopping a semi tractor. 15" rotors with 8-piston calipers... just right for that 10,000 lb vehicle.
Speaking of monster vehicles, probably the second biggest draw at the show was the six-door Ford monster pickup. Dubbed the F-650, it featured six-wheel drive and would require a fairly tall ladder to enter.
All in all, SEMA 2006 was flashy, crowded, and reflected an industry expecting to continue its recent 9% year-to-year growth rate.
