Some headers currently available have not changed since they were first offered many years ago (some designs are more than 20 years old). Needless to say, performance and manufacturing technologies have greatly improved since then and are put to full advantage in Bassani’s stainless steel headers for classic Chevelles.
We have addressed the minor details that are not addressed in older, outdated designs that were not designed to fit current aftermarket exhaust ports or stud arraignments. Both of our big-block headers for 1968-72 Chevelles feature 2-1/8" entries at the flange, which then flow into 2" primary tubes.
This larger diameter at the flange entry prevents exhaust port shrouding on most available cylinder heads. The ports on these headers are round which allows them to be used on older, stock cast iron heads or D-port aftermarket heads!
One of the most unique features of our headers and we’re sure to be the most appreciated, is the pre-milled relief we’ve machined into the bottom of the flanges (not used on 572 version as it’s not necessary) to clear the tall head studs used on modern GM crate engines with aluminum heads. We thought you would appreciate not having to grind on your new headers for hours on end in order to install them.
